We guide you on how to set up a safe and secure system so you can pass your sovereign, self-custodied bitcoin holdings to your heirs in a secure and reproducible way. We offer several ways to do this while using free and open source software (FOSS) and standard, off-the-shelf hardware.

Hardware Wallets & Seed Backups

These are core tools and will ensure you have the resources to set up multi-signature wallet(s) for your holdings. We highly recommend using a 25th password (BIP39) stored separately from your key backup to ensure your secret key can’t be discovered with your backup.

USB Drives with Hidden, Encrypted Partitions

This is the core foundation of our system and are standard hard drives imaged with Tails OS and all additional tools needed, such as VeraCrypt, Electrum bitcoin Wallet, Open Office, Tor browser, and more.

PGP Encryption

Our process leverages military-grade encryption to ensure the first layer is not compromised but only available to those with the decryption key. We teach you how to create an encryption key pair and how to encrypt and decrypt files.

Password Manager

We recommend either 1Password or KeePass XC as your daily password manager. We will set up your system so the encrypted password database is available to be accessible by your heirs, but only when needed.

Shamir Secret Sharing Scheme (SSSS)

SSSS is used as the final step to access your bitcoin private keys and/or the 25th BIP39 password to your hardware wallet. The process needs to have x number of shares combined from a total of y shares (i.e. 3/5 or 5/7), somewhat similar to multi-signature wallets.

VeraCrypt

This is an amazing, open-source utility for on-the-fly encryption and decryption. The software can create a virtual encrypted disk that works just like a regular disk but within a folder which is located within the Persistent encrypted partition within Tails OS
